Favorite Movies…

The Matrix.

There, I said it.

There has been no movie to equal it since it’s release. 11 years ago I was wasting my time watching Star Wars: Episode I in theaters and was foolish enough to wait for The Matrix to hit video before I caught up with it. This is one of the greatest regrets of my life (and that includes three divorces by age 30). The Matrix was a perfect blend of anime-inspired concepts, Hong Kong-style martial arts, philosophy and religion. There are so many layers to this film, EVERY time I watch it, I come away with something new and profound… I won’t say it has changed my life, but every time I watch it, the thrill is just as good as the first time I watched. NO other movie has ever done that to me…

Shaun of the Dead.

This movie blew me away… I was expecting funny, I was expecting satire and irony, (it is British, after all), but I was not expecting unrestrained BRILLIANCE… This movie was perfectly written, perfectly cast, perfectly acted, and perfectly directed. I can not think of a single thing that could have made this movie any better. It also introduced me to my favorite actor: Simon Pegg. I have made it my life’s mission to watch everything this man is involved with. Spaced, Mission Impossible 3, How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, Run Fatboy Run, Star Trek, and I’m still working on it. Everything I have watched with Pegg involved is better because he’s in it…

Honestly, all the others are in no particular order…

The original Star Wars trilogy, Aliens, the first two Terminator movies, The Lord of the Rings, Return to Me (yes, that rom-com with David Duchovny and Minnie Driver), Monty Python and the Holy Grail, anything by Pixar (and yes, I love ALL of them, even Cars), many of the Marvel superhero movies, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, etc…

Yes, even in my taste in movies, I’m a card-carrying geek…
